We found Villa Rosa Friuli on one of the last foothills of the Southern Alps, with a unique view down to the plain, where the sky and the sea merge. Characterized by wild valleys, quaint mountain villages and the king of Alpine rivers, the Tagliamento, this region fascinates us anew every time we visit. Also because there is so much to discover here: Whether hiking trails on jungle-covered mountains, extensive bike tours over lonely passes, hidden bathing spots at turquoise pools of wild mountain rivers, medieval towns, evidence of the Roman Empire or culinary treasures from the kitchens and cellars of Friulian chefs and winegrowers. Sounds good? Looks good too:
Good mountain air, crystal-clear water — beach feeling on the Tagliamento.
Whether Spilimbergo, San Daniele, Gemona or Tolmezzo — a visit to the historic town centers is always a little journey through time.
A cappuciono in the morning is simply part of every city tour.
From the last foothills of the Southern Alps, the view often extends far into the Tagliamento plain.
Adventure land for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether by kayak, bike, mountain boots or climbing shoes, there is plenty to discover in the Anduins area.
High chill factor: aperitif in a street café.
Lupins: one of the specialties at the regional weekly markets.
A paradise for racing cyclists: pass roads through the wilderness with almost no traffic. Where else can you find this in the Alps?
The call of the lagoon: just over an hour’s drive to the beaches of the Adriatic.
Hiking trails lead directly from Villa Rosa Friuli to Monte Anduins and Monte Pala. Viewpoints and refreshment stops included.
Discover something new or just sit there? An afternoon on the balcony of Villa Rosa Friuli also has its charms. All that’s missing here is a glass of well-chilled Pinot Grigio …
Whether along the Arzino, the Meduna or, as here, the Tagliamento, there are plenty of places to take a dip in the refreshing river water.
A paradise for hikers and paragliders alike: View from Monte Cuar.
The last foothills of the Southern Alps: hilly landscape on the Tagliamento.
King of the Alpine rivers. From its source in the Carnic Alps to its mouth near Bibione, the Tagliamento runs in its natural riverbed, making it the last of its kind in Europe.
Masterful architecture can be found, for example, on excursions to Udine, just 40 km away.
One of the historical highlights: This masterpiece can be found in the Basilica of Acquilea.
Or simply stay at Villa Rosa Friuli and enjoy the mood lighting.
Our tip for Saturday: weekly market in Spilimbergo, followed by pizza and a walk through the old town to the Castello. Pure Friuli.
South Sea feeling with a mountain panorama: Lago Cornino, only 10 minutes from Anduins. Unfortunately, swimming is not allowed. But there is a feeding place for griffon vultures next door.
And no matter where you are, the nearest bar is not far away. As in the whole of Italy, nothing works in Friuli without a good caffè.
Highlight on hot summer days: swimming in pools with crystal-clear water on the Arzino.
Even those who still pedal themselves can recharge their batteries here.
And the next surprise is just around the next corner.
